'THE BEST THING FOR YOU IS TO BE OUT OF THE TEAM'

"The best thing that has happened to John O'Shea is him being out of the team. When you see the improvement he has made in training, and strength-wise, it is remarkable.

And Johnny himself:

"For two-and-a-half years we played him all the time in different positions, sometimes with injuries, simply because we had to.

"Rio was suspended, Mikael Silvestre was out with an injury, so was Gary Neville and Wes, and really the boy has done fantastically well.

"Now having given him that break he looks a different player completely. He is fresh and strong and he has been terrific in training.

"When I came to the club I would never have thought that I would play full-back. Yet over the last two years I've played at left and right-back, then in midfield, so things can change.

"I've definitely not found my best position yet and I've enjoyed playing in all of them. If you had to push me I would say my best is centre-half."
