Real Madrid's third defeat in five games leaves them trailing Barcelona by eleven points. Real were beaten two one away to Getafe whilst Barcelona scored two against Athletic Club without reply at Camp Nou.

Diego Forlan made one goal scored another and won a penalty as Villarreal beat Espanyol four one and move to third in the table. Forlan has now scored seventeen goals this season.

Elsewhere in Spain Paulo Wanchope got into a fight with supporters of his new club Malaga.

From The Guardian:

'Paulo Wanchope said yesterday that he was involved in a scuffle with his own fans at Malaga, after they racially abused him while he was warming down after his side's 2-1 defeat at home to Real Betis.

The former Manchester City striker said he was attacked when he went to confront a fan who had used a megaphone to shout abuse at him. "I ran out of patience and went to the stands to confront him saying that if he was such a man he should say it to my face," Wanchope said on his website.

"He then kicked me and I defended myself by hitting him back. Then another fan came along and hit me from behind and I responded to that too. The police and my team-mates eventually calmed everything down, but then a small group from the same band started to make monkey noises and shout out that I was a black shit, insults that really hurt me."
