Nine police officers were injured and seven fans charged with public order offences after violence at a Serie B match between Napoli and Verona on Sunday.

Napoli fans hurled bottles and other objects at police who were barring their route to the visiting Verona fans' section of the stadium after the game that ended 0-0.

The Italian news agency ANSA said that five members of the paramilitary Carabinieri and four police officers were hurt during the clashes.

Police used teargas to disperse the Napoli supporters and travelling Verona fans were escorted to an isolated railway station to make the journey home.
