THE LIST GETS LONGER

Telegraph:

Friendly internationals rarely win the backing of Premiership managers and Sir Alex Ferguson will study the return of Ruud van Nistelrooy from Holland with interest after the Manchester United striker injured a rib while on duty with his country.

Van Nistelrooy, 29, will undergo tests at United's Carrington training ground today after pulling out of the Dutch squad for tomorrow's friendly with Italy in Amsterdam.

United are already handicapped by a long injury list, with Gary Neville, Gabriel Heinze, Ryan Giggs and captain Roy Keane all missing for long periods this season. If Van Nistelrooy's problem is serious, Ferguson will have only one senior striker, Wayne Rooney, available because Louis Saha and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remain long-term absentees.
