THE PEOPLE STIRRING UP TROUBLE?

Manchestern United are bracing themselves for a contract backlash from Wayne Rooney.

The Old Trafford club are busy tying up all their stars on long-term deals and expect Cristiano Ronaldo to sign an extension over the next couple of weeks.

Rooney is already locked into a six-year deal but the new packages for Ronaldo and Rio Ferdinand mean that the England striker finds himself in mid-table in the United pay league.

And after his sensational start to the season, I understand advisers in his camp are looking towards a quick renegotiation of his agreement.

Rooney is said to be so content at United that he would consider signing an EVEN longer deal than his current one.

And that would allow United to give him parity with Ronaldo and Ferdinand.

The Portuguese winger is rumoured to have been offered a contract that could earn him £70,000 a week ... still some way behind the £100,000 of Ferdinand.

And at £50,000 a week, Rooney - who turns 20 next month - lags behind them both.
