John O'Shea is confident that he can contain Manchester United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo when Ireland take on Portugal this week .The defender is keen to test his mettle against a player that has buoyed United to a fine recent run of form - admitting that he is a wonderful talent.

"It's going to be a very hard game," O'Shea told Sky Sports News.

"If selected, Ronaldo is a fantastic player and he'll definitely be one to watch.”

"But (Portugal) have lots of other talented players as well too; it won't just be Ronaldo.I know just how special he is though."

On United’s form he adds:

"We've had a few injuries but everyone who's come into the team has been so confident that everything has been flowing nicely. We were worried that Arsenal were ahead of us, but we've overtaken them now and the gap [to Chelsea] is down to nine points. There’s plenty more twists and turns there."
