FCUM aren’t the only club with aspirations of developing a football club run by its members .

‘Stockport County's new owners are hoping to take the Barcelona route to success.

Members of the Supporters Trust, which takes over the running of the club on June 30, are hoping to run Edgeley Park on the same principles as the Spanish champions.

"They are what we want to be," said Trust spokesman Neil Chapman. "They've got 118,000 paying members and that's what we want.

"People will laugh when Stockport is compared with Barcelona, but absolutely not. The whole ethos goes for both, they're just different-sized clubs."

The Trust last week launched a bond scheme, which members hope will provide a contingency fund of £325,000. Bonds costing £50 each have now gone on sale.

"Stockport is a big town, the biggest in England that isn't a city, and we need to get the people behind us," added Chapman.’
