From the MEN:

A city centre bar said to be used as a headquarters for Manchester City
football hooligans has been forced to close on Saturdays.

For the first time in Greater Manchester, police have used new legislation to
ask magistrates to grant a temporary closure order at the Athenaeum in King
Street because it has attracted large gangs of football fans intent on causing
trouble.

Superintendent Garry Shewan, from Bootle Street police station, said:

"Our intelligence has told us that the bar is used by Manchester City hooligans
and on Saturday we attended to see a group of about 60 men come out
carrying weapons after we had received information that there was to be a
fight in the city centre between City and United fans.

"Officers dispersed the crowds before any trouble could take place.

"We have also been called at least four times in the last year because large
numbers of Manchester City fans have been helping themselves to alcohol
from behind the bar or, on one occasion, trying to steal money from the till."
