More evidence that women should be seen and not heard as Posh Spice has to pay out for slander, this from Manchester Online.

Victoria Beckham today (Tuesday) agreed to pay £55,000 in damages to settle a slander action over an autograph of her husband that the singer had claimed was not authentic.

The former Spice Girl was not at the High Court in London to hear proceedings, which had been brought by Tim and Glynis McManus.

During a trip to the family run shop in March 2001, Mrs Beckham had claimed a signed photograph of England captain David Beckham was not genuine, with her comment subsequently being reported in national newspapers.

Michael Skrein, solicitor for the McManus' said that the singer had also apologised for the "hurt and damage" her comments had caused the family and their business.

It is thought that Mrs Beckham will also face legal costs estimated in excess of £100,000.
