The Times:

The Argentina left back played in the Copa America final against Brazil in Venezuela last night and is waiting for the green light from Ferguson before deciding whether to join Liverpool in a £6 million deal.

Ferguson is desperate to prevent Heinze becoming the first player to move between the clubs in more than 40 years, but under new Fifa legislation the defender can buy out the last two years of his United contract whether Ferguson likes it or not. Liverpool are ready to test that ruling, but Ferguson and his senior players have urged the Argentinian to move abroad — to Real Madrid or Juventus.

Although Heinze is aware of the backlash that the transfer would create among United fans, he is keen to make the move — but only with Ferguson's blessing.
