THROUGH THE CLOSED WINDOW

At least that’s what it sounds like to a seasoned Fergie watcher.

"We did make a move for someone in the striking department but it didn't materialise," said Ferguson.

"But, as long as I can keep Scholes and Giggs fit, I've got alternatives up there in different types of games."

"The transfer window is a good thing, for a start we don't get the same drivel about all the players we are going to sign," said Ferguson.

"The money isn't there in football at the moment and academies may be the only avenue that some clubs have got left. Once you close doors for bringing players in during the season, all you can do is to look at your own set-up.

"At the moment we've got Luke Chadwick, John O'Shea and Michael Stewart doing very well. Danny Pugh is reaching the level where Luke was a couple of years ago. Paul Tierney is a decent young full-back and Lee Roche has been in our squad as well.

"Then we get income from the likes of Jonathan Greening and Mark Wilson who break into the first-team squad, get restless and then want to move on as they did when they went to Middlesbrough.

It keeps the whole thing moving along."
