TIM HOWARD SPEAKS

"I have been here for six months, he was here for 10 years,"
said Howard. "He was a great professional and is obviously a
United legend.

"He was a hero of mine before I came here and I've bumped
into him a couple of times, which is a real honour.

"But the comparisons between us are silly and unfair to him,
me and the other keepers."

Howard has been surprised by United’s popularity since
joining:

"Even in America, where soccer isn't the biggest sport,
people know Manchester United," he said.

"I knew they were huge all over the world but to see how
many members there were on a club visit to Malta recently,
and the passion and association they feel for the club, that
was a big eye-opener.

"It's amazing to think how many people follow this club all
round the world. It's just crazy.

"We don't really have derby games in the States because we
are pretty spread out over there," said Howard.

"So I have never really played in such a local game before.
The lads will fill me in on want to expect as it gets nearer
I am sure. I have grown as a player in my short time in
England because of some of the atmospheres and games I have
played in.

"Playing at Liverpool, at home to Arsenal, away at Chelsea
and up at Rangers in the Champions League have been great
experiences. I expect Saturday might be similar."
