From The Sunday People:

Tim Howard has landed Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson with a goalkeeping crisis that will see the keeper miss crucial Premiership and Cup games in the New Year.

Howard will be needed by the American national team for the lengthy qualification process for the 2006 World Cup which begins in January.

And it will mean the USA could be calling on the United star for an amazing 20 internationals in 23 months.

From The Sunday Mirror:

Ferguson said: "We know all about the games that are coming up for the United States, but we will deal with it."

Yet Barthez will still be allowed to join Marseille on loan in the New Year, and Sunday Mirror Sport can reveal that United are ready to let the World Cup winner leave on a free transfer at the end of the season to save almost £10m in wages over the remaining two-and-a-half years of his contract.
