'Rio Ferdinand will return for Manchester United next week, but I believe he shouldn't be playing for another year. The Reds defender ends his eight-month exile in time to face Liverpool at Old Trafford a week tomorrow, but I still think the Reds defender should consider himself very lucky indeed not to have been handed a longer ban.

Having missed a drugs test, I believe he should have received the same punishment which is dished out to players who fail a drugs test - a minimum of two years!

Saying that, Sir Alex Ferguson will be delighted to have him back in the side, especially with the injuries building up. Rio's return will be like a new signing for him.

But I am still to be convinced by the former Leeds and West Ham man. At £29m, you would expect to be signing the complete defender, but for me he gives forwards too many chances.'
