Torres' agent, Antonio Sanz , claims there has been no offer from United.

"On July 21, Torres will join Atletico Madrid for pre-season training.

"Torres has two years left on his contract with Atletico and then we will see what happens.

"Neither us, nor the club, has received an offer from Manchester United, or any other clubs for that matter.

"After the World Cup, there has been interest from Italian clubs but not from English clubs, and there hasn't been anything concrete.

"The player's intention is to remain at the club."

The Sun:

Atletico coach, Javier Aguirre has admitted it is highly unlikely Torres, 22, will be in Madrid when the season starts.

The news will be just what Fergie wants to hear following Van Nistelrooy's transfer request.

Aguirre revealed after talks with Torres: "I looked him in the eyes and asked if he could guarantee he would be staying but he said, ‘At the present time I can't do that'.

"I know, the president knows and Torres knows there have been some negotiations behind the scenes. And I do not know whether I can count on him next season."
