TOSHACK AND GIGGS

The Wales manager said:

"Ryan Giggs is probably the most successful Wales footballer and is rightly regarded as one of the greats. But when you look at Ryan and the performances he has given over the years for United, and the amount of games he has played for them, he hasn’t been as effective for Wales over that time."

Giggs wins his 50th cap tonight and Toshack has asked him to skipper the side against Hungary in what is Toshack’s first game in charge.

For all the Celtic drum thumping Toshack does appear to understand United's concerns too:

"I’ve had a chat with Alex about one or two things and we are pretty much in agreement that, at this particular stage of his career, we would like to do everything to see he’s able to be involved for the important games. Because of the number of years he has been in the game and the way he plays, twisting and turning, you acquire a certain amount of wear and tear. You can get tweaks or you can get knock-backs from injuries you’ve had before. Ryan’s had hamstring problems in the past and when we start the Euro 2008 qualifiers we want him to be playing."
