Ajax defender Hatem Trabelsi wants to come to United and the press claim United are ready with a bid as soon as the team returns from Portugal.

Trabelsi said: "I would be really interested to play for Manchester United. No one could turn down the chance to play for a club that big."

While Ajax coach Ronald Koeman said: "Hatem is a fantastic right-back who can play right across the defence and I can see why people compare him to Lilian Thuram,"

"He's been fantastic for us in the two years he's been here and I wouldn't want to see him leave.

But it is possible because we cannot compare with clubs like Manchester United."

Another supposed target France international Willy Sagnol claims that United had been sniffing around him.

"They wanted to know if I would be interested in moving to United,"

"I answered that I'd just signed a new contract a few months ago which takes me to 2006.

"Until then I was only under contract until 2004. It's a pity that a club like United have just come in for me now."

The Sun claims United will bid for Barca's Carlos Puyol.
