From the Guardian:

Owen Hargreaves looks set to miss out on his dream Premiership move after his agent today admitted defeat in his bid to engineer a transfer to Manchester United.

Bayern Munich bosses have been unmoved by a string of emotional appeals from Hargreaves this summer, and are intent on holding on to the England midfielder despite United raising their offer to a reported £17m.

Hargreaves' agent Roman Grill has conceded that nothing will be done before January at the earliest.

"There is no chance of the deal taking place. We have to accept there is no way Bayern will allow this transfer to happen. We did everything we could to grant Owen his wish to play for Manchester United but his only hope is that, if United remain interested in him, the deal could happen at a later date."

Uli Hoeness is quoted:

"We want to move forward with Mark [van Bommel] and Owen together. Our transfer activity for the summer is finally over now. We are not a bank but a football team and we would be crazy to sign Van Bommel as a replacement for Hargreaves."
