The Sunday Mirror claim that 'United have won the race to sign Barcelona's Gerard Pique'. He's a 17-year old defender. The paper says that the Gabriel Heinze deal is done and dusted and also claims that SAF is interested in Lyon's Brazilian (oh no!) Edmilson. The People also say that Heinze will sign this week after being axed for the Argie World Cup squad.

The Mirror claim that our feeder club will double James Milner's wages so to avoid yet another player heading in our direction.

The Sunday Express say we may line up Parma centre-half Matteo Ferrari- this has been doing the rounds for some time.

The News of the Screws (Abbi Titmuss is in there again) say that Willy Sagnol has 'sent a come-and-get-me plea to Arsenal and Manchester United.

One transfer that is defo - Ben Williams has joined Crewe on a free. He says; "I'm delighted to sign because I spent a great time here while I was on loan.

"My decision to sign for Crewe is a footballing one because now is the time for me to be pushing on in my career."
