Speaking out about his contract situation the player said:

“I may have two feet in the team but I've also got one foot, my body and nearly my head out of the club.

“I would like to stay here but not at any price

Not only in terms of money but in terms of respect

If I'm not shown that respect, I'll go to another club.”

According to a report in the Mail Louis van Gaal believes the player could prove a valuable and reliable player over a relatively short-term deal if the player becomes available as a free agent

The player will demand high wages but he will bring a lot of experience to the right back area and could be difficult to overlook if Nathaniel Clyne decides to accept his contract offer and stay at Southampton.

Alves joined Barca in 2008 from Sevilla and in his seven seasons has amassed 341 appearances for the club and scored 20 goals

Alves has twice won the Champions League as well as the Copa del Rey with both Sevilla and Barcelona, the UEFA Cup twice with Sevilla and the FIFA Club World Cup on two occasions with Barcelona.
