In a carbon copy of Kenyon's appointment of Paddy Harverson at Old Trafford Chelsea Village have appointed Simon Greenberg as their new director of communications.

Spurs fan Greenberg is a mate of Harverson's and has allegedly been offered a salary of £250,000 to take on the job as Chelsea's Director of Communications. Greenberg was Sports Reporter of the year in 1995 when working for the Daily Mail and is renowned for being ambitious and ruthless.

'Greenberg, 34, most recently worked as assistant editor of the Evening Standard and will head up a new communications team to work closely with chief executive Peter Kenyon and the club's management.

Kenyon said: "Chelsea will continue to be one of the most exciting stories over the next few years and Simon will play a key role in communicating our aims and ambitions both on the field and off the field both domestically and further afield.

Greenberg said: "I am incredibly excited about this new challenge at Chelsea. I am looking forward to working with the great team of people who are already at Stamford Bridge, on and off the pitch."
