It's finally happened.
About a month too late, but still, it's finally happened - Manchester United have confirmed that they have sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Manchester United can confirm that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his role as Manager.

Thank you for everything, Ole ❤️#MUFC
The Red Devils were thrashed 4-1 by Watford on Saturday in what proved to be the final straw (rather than the humiliating and humbling losses at home to Liverpool and Man City).

Best wishes to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Gave it a good shot and looked to be on the right lines, but the last two months have been horrendous under him. Sad that it came to this. Paris was incredible.

United confirmed in a statement that Michael Carrick will take temporary charge of the first team while the club looks to appoint an interim manager until the end of the season.
Which seems a bit odd considering the level of star talent they have in their squad and that they are effectively on the hunt for an interim boss to succeed the caretaker.
It’s a nice statement, tbf. Interesting that they’re going to try and see out the season and start again though… pic.twitter.com/MST7RWdoz6

Interim for an interim. This is interesting. Suggests not Zidane too. https://t.co/sGiw4C2EgY

It's strange #mufc are seemingly prepared to write off a season when there are 26 games left in the league and two left in the Champions League group stage. Additional confirmation they had no succession plan in place.

Particularly case with Ronaldo. Feels like a waste. https://t.co/mQAb5FS7jZ

Solskjaer - a club legend, let's not forget - was booed by sections of United's away following at Vicarage Road. He also oversaw one of the happiest periods of the club's recent history, particularly in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, and that may be appreciated a bit more now that he's gone.
Of course recent results define the reaction (and it should have happened weeks ago, at latest) but I expect in time, Solskjaer's overall work at United, set against context of far broader failings by others at the club, will reflect more kindly on him, both as a person & manager

A true gentleman.

Probably just not the right man at the right time https://t.co/1BJ0sqXFS8
Thank you Ole. You did us proud . The last two months were tough but before that you restored some soul into the club. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/cseYVIFgqK

Whatever the criticisms, no-one could ever accuse OGS of not making decisions he thought were the best for @ManUtd. A thoroughly decent man.

Seeking confirmation from @FootballCliches that there has never been a sacked manager more “welcome back here any time” than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United
— Huw Davies (@thehuwdavies) November 21, 2021
Solskjaer has been an easy (very funny) target and he’s obviously not a great coach.
— James Harris (@JamesCHarris97) November 21, 2021
But knowing how important it is to get a feel-good, Mourinho antidote to heal the rot, I can see why a lot of United fans stuck by him for so long. Jose really does leave deep, lasting wounds.
While some United fans are heartbroken that they've had to treat Solskjaer the way George treated Lennie in Of Mice and Men, spare a thought for the supporters of other Premier League sides who are can no longer ironically sing 'Ole's at the wheel' anymore.

The final goal of Solskjaer's reign (well, for United anyway) was scored by Donny van de Beek - who the Norwegian kept on the periphery of the squad for some reason despite his obvious quality.
