BREAKING! Tahith Chong is set to become the first player in football history to win the Ballon d'Or while playing in the Championship!
Okay, maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but the young Dutchman is driving Birmingham City fans crazy with his match-winning displays and he's got the whole second tier talking.
The word on the street is: this kid is way too good for the Championship, and it's massively unfair on the rest of us. The 21-year-old has never really had a look-in at Manchester United, and he's bounced around on a number of loan spells in recent years.
But Chong has finally found a loving home in the Midlands, and under the tutelage of Lee Bowyer, the winger is fast becoming the most exciting player in the Championship.
He starred in the Blues' 5-0 win over Luton Town on Saturday afternoon, assisting the second goal with a lovely cross, and supplying the third with a blistering run from one end of the pitch to the other before being taken down in the penalty area.
Chong almost got on the scoresheet himself too, striking a vicious, sweeping shot with his left foot which Hatters keeper Simon Sluga did brilliantly to turn away. Overall it was a devastating display from a boy playing at a level miles below his own.
Birmingham coach Bowyer described the forward as 'beautiful to watch' in his post-match interview, admitting that even he has been left 'surprised' by the Man Utd loanee's ability, as cited by the Birmingham Mail.
"He glides past people doesn’t he, with ease. It’s beautiful to watch for me as manager, and for the supporters, whether he’s in your team or the opposite team.
"I knew he was a good player but I have to say that he’s surprised me.
"He wants to excite people and I just want him to score a goal because his performances since he’s been here, he deserves one."
It's not just Bowyer who has been utterly wowed by Chong's performances so far this season, either. Blues took to Twitter to hail their loanee's displays, tipping him to win the most prestigious individual prize in football.
And the stats were there to back up the initial eye-test, too.
He's even got his own song, by the looks of things...
That run for the third goal really was something special...
Some Red Devils were already tracking the winger's progress, and they like what they are hearing.
Keep an eye on Chong over the next few months, Man Utd fans. You've got a serious baller on your hands.
