Arsenal muscle in on race for Defoe
From The Guardian

The widespread assumption that Jermain Defoe will join Manchester United when the transfer window opens in January is to be challenged by Arsenal.
Fresh speculation about the striker's future at West Ham mounted yesterday after Nottingham Forest agreed to sell them their forward Marlon Harewood for £500,000.

It is inconceivable that Pardew would buy Hayden Mullins and Harewood for £1.1m without the knowledge that cash is coming into Upton Park.
Arsène Wenger has been searching for a partner for Thierry Henry and in the 21-year-old Defoe sees a player more compatible than previous options such as Francis Jeffers.
