England duo Ashley Young and Phil Jones both picked up injuries that will keep them out of the festive period games and maybe even longer.
Jones was taken off after being hit in the face by Clint Dempsey’s elbow early on in the game, he was playing in place of Rio Ferdinand in defence. There are big fears that Jones may have a fracture which could result in a six week lay-off.
“We’ve got a couple of injuries,” United manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed afterwards.
“Phil Jones got an elbow to the jaw and we’ll send him for an X-ray tomorrow. It doesn’t look good. Rio will be back for the Blackburn game on New Year’s Eve, Phil is a concern and Ashley is out for two or three weeks.”
