UNHAPPY HAMMERS

Bottom of the Premiership and still looking for their first win of the season the West Ham chairman is concerned that the jeering and booing from the oh so loyal East Enders may drive the likes of Joe Cole, Michael Carrick and Jermain Defoe elsewhere.

He said: "When we end up losing Joe, Michael and Jermain because of the disgraceful treatment they have received from supporters, the board will end up being blamed once again for lack of ambition. Team spirit is being eroded by booing from our supporters. The team were superb against Arsenal and didn't expect to be booed off at half-time against Charlton. We have three of the best young footballers in England, and Michael is returning from a very serious operation.

"He joined us as a 13-year-old when he could have joined any club in England, and he has gone on to be a magnificent player, having twice appeared for the full England team. That that player should be booed on our pitch is little short of a disgrace.

"Jermain is acknowledged to be the most outstanding striker of his generation. If we lose Jermain or Joe, then the supporters will have themselves to blame. Players can now leave on a Bosman, so there's no benefit to the board in losing top-quality young English players without a transfer fee. Yet this will be the result of constant booing from supporters who claim to love the team and club."
