United hit by ITV Digital fallout

ITV Digital was put into administration yesterday after a downturn in advertising revenue and a small subscriber base meant it could not afford to meet payments to the Football League for exclusive television rights.

Although this will not effect the deal between British Sky Broadcasting and the FA Premier League it has raised issues over the slump in advertising revenue.

Today the value of Man Utd's shares had slumped by around four pence by midday, with a further decrease expected in the afternoon.

"The only thing it can be is the fallout from ITV Digital and how that will effect the price of football rights," explained ING Barings analysts Roy Owens.

"When talks start around the next round of rights in a year's time there is only BSkyB which has any big clout...This may be the end of big fees for the Premiership"
