The Times:

With Edwin van der Sar, the goal-keeper, replaced at half-time because of a foot injury and Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs absent, Rooney might have expected to be given the captain's armband in the second half, but that honour went to Nemanja Vidic, possibly as a reward for his loyalty. The Serbia defender is close to signing a new long-term contract that will improve his wages to more than £50,000 a week.

The Mirror:

Nemanja Vidic will sign a new five-year contract with Manchester United within the next few days.

The Serbia international, who joined United from Red Star Belgrade for a fee of £7million in January 2006 with full-back Patrice Evra, will see his weekly wage more than double to around £50,000 a week.
