VIEIRA STILL HASN'T SIGNED

“Contrary to the article in Sunday’s News of the World I
have not actually signed a new contract with Arsenal
Football Club yet.

“However, negotiations are going well, improving all the
time and I am very hopeful things will be sorted out by the
start of the season.

“I would like to make it clear that I did not do an
interview with the News of the World and I will make any
announcement regarding my future through Arsenal Football
Club.”

Someone should tell Sol Campbell about that, as he is
already getting giddy about it in the Mirror:

"You can't over-emphasise how massive a figure Patrick is at
the club and how important he is to our chances of winning
trophies. Like Tony Adams, he is a guy who is tremendously
popular, both within the squad and among the fans.

"The supporters see him as a figurehead for the cub because
they can see how much Arsenal means to him. Patrick still
has a lot he wants to achieve at the club, just as I do. We
had some success last season but the one we all want to win
is the Premiership and it is time to get that back.

“It's a big season for Arsenal and for me and I'm buzzing.
It feels great to be back. Everybody at Highbury wants the
title very much. We finished second last time so we know we
have to do better. But we have a great side and Arsene
Wenger is looking for other players to strengthen it."
