‘Fergie was furious with referee Alan Wiley.

The official awarded a free-kick against Mikael Silvestre after David Sommeil blasted the ball on to his hand from only two yards.

And from the resulting set-piece, Goater headed home the point-saver with just four minutes left on the clock.

Earlier, Sommeil went unpunished after clattering into David Beckham.

Fergie moaned: "Those are decisive moments that can change a game."

He then added about Silvestre's handball: "It was disappointing them getting the free-kick. Silvestre was only two yards away and the ball was blasted at him.

"That happened earlier in the game and he played on. I have also seen the David Beckham incident - and that was a clear penalty kick."

Indeed, Steve Howey DID appear to be hit by a Juan Veron strike. And the TV replays DID suggest Sommeil and City were highly fortunate to escape after the City defender went crashing into the back of Beckham.

Yet really United can blame no one but themselves, after having City on the rack in the first half.’
