"People criticise and say that our relationship isn't good, but if you actually analyse the success Manchester United has had and the support that Alex has had from the board and how he's capitalised on that support, then we must have been doing something right. "I've had a very good working relationship with Alex Ferguson. We're not sort of bosom pals or anything like that, we don't socialise together, but then again, I never did with Ron Atkinson and I never did with Dave Sexton. It was purely a working relationship. Alex is the manager and Alex comes to the board with whatever, to buy players or sell players or whatever else, and as the chairman and chief executive, I think I've supported him along the way in achieving that. You've only got to look at the success of the team over the years to see that it's a very good working relationship."
