"Manchester United think he is worth it. They made their mind up before the World Cup and now they've got what they wanted. It's a colossal amount but they've got their man and that's vital if they are to make a challenge for the championship they lost last year. He's left a very good club - I spent 7½ years there - but Manchester United are a fantastic club.He handled the move from West Ham well and he'll blossom into an even better player now.He wants to play in the Champions League and didn't achieve that at Leeds. But he's grasped the opportunity to play with a club who can get that on a yearly basis.Rio had a very good World Cup and enjoys playing against the best. Now he has the opportunity to achieve that ambition - which all professional footballers should try and do.

McQueen, who followed fellow Scot Jordan to Old Trafford in 1978, revealed sympathy for Leeds fans.

"They are losing their best player and they will be absolutely devastated - and what makes it a lot worse for them is him going to Manchester United. But Leeds can't match United's financial clout and the defence has been a massive problem for them.It looks like he's been unsettled and wants to fulfil his ambition to win trophies - and whether Leeds fans like it or not, he's got more chance of doing it at Old Trafford than at Elland Road."
