WELSH REDS

Giggs said: "Success with Wales is still one of my main ambitions. It has been for 10 years throughout all the success at club level. I was a young player when I was part of that Wales side that failed to reach the USA World Cup and we haven't done anything since. But this squad has more match winners, it's probably our best chance of qualifying for something since that 1993 side. To reach either the World Cup or the European Championships is the aim for me. I know I haven't got much time left to do it, I'm nearly 29. I don't think about that much but it is fact now." Just keep your eye on the main chance eh Ryan.

And Sparky succeeds where Gould, Yorath and Toshack failed:

‘Wales are ready to hand Mark Hughes a four-year contract worth up to £2m. The part-time manager is in a strong position after the 2-0 win in Finland last Saturday, when they began their quest for a place at Euro 2004,’ reports the Guardian.

‘The FAW's international committee has been negotiating with the 38-year-old Hughes and his adviser Dennis Roach for months in an attempt to make his £80,000-a-year deal a full-time arrangement. Hughes, who finished his 22-year playing career at Blackburn last June, was understood to be asking for around £350,000 a year but is now thought to be ready to sign for £175,000 a year, rising to £250,000 by 2006.

If Wales qualify for the European Championship and 2006 World Cup finals, he would also pick up around £1m in bonuses.’
