WES APPEARING WITH FATHER CHRISTMAS

The man himself:

"The specialist has said late December around Christmas or early January. I am just looking at that and not getting my hopes up."

"I keep that target in my head but there is no guarantee it is going to be then.

"I am not even kicking a ball yet. I can run again and have just moved onto that. Hopefully I will move onto other things soon.

"Last time I came back a bit early and it didn't help so I have learnt from that. Everything has got to feel right in the knee and you know in your own head you have to feel right.

"It is no use coming back if you are still feeling something.

"My right knee which I injured four years ago is fine and I don't have any problems with it at all so hopefully I can work hard on my left knee and get it to the same strength as my right is.

"Basically I know I have to do the work. If I don't put the work in then the muscles don't get stronger. You have to put the work in and that's what I am doing.

"It is frustrating but you always think ahead to when it is done and you are back on the pitch playing again.

"I couldn't have the op straightaway but after surgery I was able to start working after about a week and a half on the bike. It's frustrating though. It never crosses my mind to think `why me?' again. I don't think about that. You just have to get on with it and concentrate on the positives."
