WES REFLECTS ON HIS LUCK - GOOD AND BAD

Wes Brown in The People:

"It was a tough environment and all I did as a kid was play football. I'd come home from school and I'd be straight out to play with my mates and brothers because there wasn't much else to do."

"I've not had the best of luck but it's no use feeling sorry for yourself. You've got to get on with it otherwise there's no chance of getting back. At times, it's worse being injured at a club like Manchester United because you look around at the players here and you know you not only face a fight to get fit, but you also face a hell of a battle to get your place back.

"But that also acts as a spur and the motivation you need to overcome setbacks. The manager is really good in those situations. He knows players feel down so he's always ready to have a chat and encourage you.

"You just have to follow the programme set by the physios, and the way to beat the depression is through your own mental will and strength during the bad days.

"I can get down at times and there have been enough of those moments already in my career. But there's no point sitting around feeling sorry for yourself.

"When I broke into the first team there was a lot of talk and hype, but I didn't take any notice and I still don't.

"I'm a Manchester lad first and foremost and I always wanted to play for Manchester United. To do so is a dream come true."
