When Jadon Sancho could play his first game for Man Utd

Manchester United fans could get their first glimpse of new signing Jadon Sancho in action for the club in the final pre-season friendly of the summer against Everton at Old Trafford on 7 August.

United have already announced that an agreement is in place with Borussia Dortmund over the long-awaited transfer and official completion of the £73m deal is expected imminently.

Sancho was unable to undergo a medical and finalise the transfer while he was still part of England’s squad bubble at Euro 2020. But with the tournament concluding with the final on Sunday, the 21-year-old was at United’s training ground on Tuesday.

The Manchester Evening News reports that Sancho underwent the medical as expected and posed for photographs ahead of his imminent official unveiling.

Having played only sparingly for England at Euro 2020 – his only start was in the quarter-final against Ukraine – Sancho is expected to have just a short three-week holiday before linking up his new United teammates and properly starting his preparations for the new season.

That puts his arrival at training in the week commencing Monday 2 August, which could put him in contention to feature when Everton make the short trip to Old Trafford for United’s final pre-season game of the summer on Saturday 7 August.

Even with just a few days of training under his belt by that stage, making a start in the Everton game unlikely, United fans would be delighted to see Sancho get on the pitch in his new colours.

Sancho is expected to be assigned United’s iconic number seven shirt, made famous by the likes of George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo. That will mean that Edinson Cavani will swap shirts, having worn it with distinction last season.

United kick-off their 2021/22 Premier League with a home clash against Leeds on 14 August.
