WHICH CUP IS THAT THEN?

The Times reports:

‘Worthington’s, the brewer, is not renewing its £23 million five-year deal with the League which expired at the weekend. Coors, the US brewer that recently bought Worthington’s, is not interested. Being the sponsor of the National Football League (NFL) under a $300 million five-year deal, its sights are set on the American market where the Superbowl is still the biggest advertising opportunity around. Coors’ decision to sponsor the NFL and drop the League Cup incidentally came at about the same time.

There is still no news on a replacement for Worthington’s, which is unusual in football where rights holders like to renegotiate contracts between 12 and 18 months before they run out. The League says three or four companies are vying to become the new sponsor in a deal worth £10 million over three years.’

Martin Samuels commented that the 20-1 bets allegedly placed by United staffers no looks a bit sad.
