David Dein the vice-Chairman of the football league yesterday announced that the Premier League could soon have a winter break. The Independent says that Wenger and Houllier are the keenest managers for the proposal. Although this newshound seems to think Fergie has been talking about this on and off for some time.

However Dein says that the break isn't a done deal yet as the proposal has to be passed at a Premier League technical meeting.

"If they are in favour, it will go back to the clubs and if everyone is of the same opinion, that it is a good idea, we can look at getting it arranged" He said.

The break would put the Premier league in line with both Italy and Spain whose clubs enjoy a short holiday every year during the winter. The intended rest period could start immediately after the New Year's Day fixtures and would last around three weeks.
