Wolves 0-1 Man Utd: Player ratings as Mason Greenwood strikes again to clinch win for Red Devils

Manchester United maintained their unbeaten start to the season on Sunday afternoon, although they had to ride their luck in the 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

The Red Devils survived an incredible early scare, when Francisco Trincao's shot seemed destined for the bottom corner, only for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to slide in and poke the ball off the line. At the other end, Mason Greenwood failed to turn Daniel James' shot on target soon after, as the visitors looked to respond.

Man Utd couldn't live with the frightening dribbling ability of Adama Traore, who rampaged through the midfield and defence on countless occasions. Bruno Fernandes then had the ball in the net on 38 minutes, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Wolves continued to create chances in the second half, with Trincao dragging a great chance wide after being found in space in the penalty area. David de Gea then produced a memorable double save to deny Romain Saiss from a corner, showing lightning reflexes to keep out two close-range efforts.

That save proved vital, as Greenwood went on to break the deadlock on 80 minutes, racing down the right flank and firing through the body of Sa and into the corner to send the away fans wild, clinching all three points.

Let's check out the player ratings.

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Jose Sa (GK) - 6/10 - Made one fantastic save that even the referee missed, getting the faintest of touches to Greenwood's drive. Will be disappointed to have been beaten for the goal.

Max Kilman (CB) - 7/10 - Flew into some tackles on Sancho with great gusto and timing. Really solid and another confident showing from the youngster.

Conor Coady (CB) - 7/10 - Got stuck into Greenwood early on, letting him know what kind of an afternoon he was in for. Read the game excellently to nip ahead of the forward and win the ball.

Romain Saiss (CB) - 6/10 - Thought he'd got his goal in the second half, but was denied by an incredible double save. Not good enough against the winning goal.

2. Wing-backs & midfielders

Nelson Semedo (RWB) - 6/10 - Caused Sancho and Shaw some problems with his willingness to take on his marker. Still a bit suspect at the back.

Ruben Neves (CM) - 7/10 - Floated some excellent deliveries into the box and kept Wolves moving. A solid audition, if rumours of Man Utd interest are to be believed.

Joao Moutinho (CM) - 6/10 - Wasted a great chance, flashing a shot over the bar from inside the box. Has to hit the target. Lost influence as the game progressed.

Fernando Marcal (LWB) - 6/10 - A great battle between the wing-back and Wan-Bissaka, and constantly looked to whip crosses into the box. A centre-forward's dream. Out of position for Greenwood's winner.

3. Forwards

Francisco Trincao (RW) - 7/10 - Almost broke the deadlock, if not for some heroics on the goalline. Floated about creating plenty of problems. Slipped the ball through Maguire's legs in style. Dragged a good chance wide.

Raul Jimenez (ST) - 6/10 - Dropped deep to thread passes through to his flying wingers. Had a couple of sights of goal but couldn't test De Gea.

Adama Traore (LW) - 8/10 - Charged through the heart of Man Utd inside a couple of minutes, creating a great chance with destructive pace and strength. A threat throughout, and a brilliant watch.

4. Substitutes

Daniel Podence (RW) - 6/10

Morgan Gibbs-White (CM) - N/A

Fabio Silva (ST) - N/A

5. Goalkeeper & defenders

David de Gea (GK) - 9/10 - Beaten by Trincao, but Wan-Bissaka came to the rescue. Unbelievable double save from Saiss! How on earth did he do that?! That second stop was world class, diving to his left.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB) - 7/10 - Brilliant last-ditch defending to snake out a boot and stop Trincao's effort on the goalline. Had less success trying to contain Traore.

Raphael Varane (CB) - 8/10 - Produced a vital interception to stop Jimenez running clean through. Settled into the back line excellently, and looked at ease. Encouraging signs.

Harry Maguire (CB) - 7/10 - Stayed cool when faced by the charging bull Traore, blocking his shot on the edge of the box. Landed some decisive challenges on Jimenez. Got nutmegged by Trincao - whoops.

Luke Shaw (LB) - 8/10 - Dynamic and dangerous going forward, while always looking to intercept the ball high up the pitch. Slowed down Traore superbly.

6. Midfielders

Frustration | Michael Regan/Getty Images

Paul Pogba (CM) - 7/10 - Lost possession a few times, but looked a bit isolated in the midfield. Improved in the second half to show his true class with some lovely passes.

Fred (CM) - 6/10 -
Served up for breakfast by Trincao in trying to stop a counter attack. Had possibly the worst ten minutes since Jonathan Woodgate's Real Madrid debut. Improved later on, but he couldn't have got any worse.

Bruno Fernandes (AM) - 6/10 -
Kept his calm to finish emphatically, but the timing of the run was just off. Close. Cut a frustrated figure with both his teammates and the referee.

7. Forwards

How's your touch? | Michael Regan/Getty Images

Daniel James (RW) - 6/10 - Fizzed a shot towards goal from the edge of the box, but his effort flashed wide. Showed crucial awareness and pace to recover the ball. Subbed, but certainly not the worst in the forward line.

Mason Greenwood (ST) - 8/10 - Forced Sa into a brilliant save with a rasping drive from an acute angle. Made the difference on the right, beating his man and firing home the winner. A superstar in the making.

Jadon Sancho (LW) - 5/10 - Played his team into danger with a cushioned header which Jimenez intercepted. Ran into a few cul-de-sacs and couldn't get the better of his man. Caught offside one too many times, and subbed.

8. Substitutes

Edinson Cavani (ST) - 7/10

Anthony Martial (LW) - 6/10

Diogo Dalot (RWB) - N/A
