WSL team of the week - gameweek 10

Only three WSL games went ahead in the final round of fixtures before the winter break as a result of three COVID-19 postponements, but there were still plenty of big performances all the same.

Manchester United impressed in their 5-0 win over Aston Villa, while Leicester got a landmark first ever WSL win when they played Birmingham. Tottenham also edged their clash with Everton to end the calendar year in the Champions League places.

This is 90min's latest WSL team of the week...

ICYMI: WSL results roundup - gameweek 10

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Tinja-Rikka Korpela (GK) - Tottenham: Made a really good save in the first half when it was still goalless and went on to continue keeping Everton at bay with several further stops.

Sophie Howard (RB) - Leicester: Netted the Foxes' early goal against Birmingham and contributed to a first WSL clean sheet.

Molly Bartrip (CB) - Tottenham: Repelled everything that Everton had to throw against Spurs in an important win for the club.

Sam Tierney (CB) - Leicester:
Scored a thumping header for the Foxes' second goal, as well as being good on the ball and strong defensively.

Ashleigh Plumptre (LB) - Leicester: Another Foxes defender who deserves praise for her performance in what could be a turning point in their season.

2. Midfielders

Hayley Ladd (CM) - Man Utd: Getting back to the form that saw her named her club's player of the year in 2020. This was an all-action performance.

Molly Pike (CM) - Leicester: Created her team's first goal with a driving run into the penalty area and delivered the corner that assisted the second.

Lucy Staniforth (AM) - Man Utd: Provided spark and creativity, resulting in a penalty for her team, while she scored a fine goal of her own.

3. Forwards

Jessica Naz (RW) - Tottenham: Scored a fine solo goal to secure Spurs' win, a moment of magic that made the difference in a tight game.

Alessia Russo (ST) - Man Utd: Led the line so well again. Only a goal-line clearance denied her a goal but she still bagged an assist.

Ella Toone (LW) Man Utd: Netted a brace, her team's first and last goal of the day, with a performance of top quality that is fast becoming the norm.
