"He will be hugely disappointed and anybody in that position would be hugely disappointed about it but at the same time I can't see him not having a future at the club.

"He is the main man, he's top scorer there, he's done it all the years he's been there, four years I think it is now.

"He's been their top scorer and I'm sure he will continue to be their top scorer for some time to come.

"I can sympathise with Ruud, I've been in a similar position, we had won the championship by one point against Arsenal, and going to Wembley at the weekend I was left out of the team.

"The manager knocked on my door and decided to say to me he wasn't going to play me from the start but I would be playing in the championship (UEFA Champions League Final)."

About preparing for the World Cup:

"The fact the Australian season finishes this weekend means that I'll be without a club for two-and-a-half months. I have the option to train with Manchester United, but I need games as well. I still have another year with Sydney so it is something that I will be discussing with my manager. We will be looking at every possibility."

The Sun:

The Trinidad and Tobago skipper — who faces England on June 15 — plays for Sydney FC, whose season ends this weekend.

Yorke: "I’m grateful to Alex Ferguson. He knows how much the World Cup means to me."
