Peter Kenyon:

"The media attention on football is enormous which doesn't make running the business easier. I'm not sure being a public company is in their best interests. When you're a private company, you don't have to submit accounts to the Stock Exchange every six months. You don't have to answer to shareholders. You can just get on with it in a quiet manner. It is an easier environment to work in, although of course it helps if you've got the funds in the first place.

"It has served them well at United but there has to be a question over it's relevance today. It is the best run football club in the world but it is not all down to it being a public company. Too many football clubs went public without changing the structure of the club and look at how they are today."

Accountability and football just don’t seem to mix do they?
