Young Boys vs Man Utd: TV channel, live stream, team news & prediction

Manchester United begin their 2021/22 Champions League group stage with a trip to Switzerland to face Young Boys on Tuesday night.

It is potentially a favourable start back in Europe’s elite club competition for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, whose last continental game was last season’s Europa League final against Villarreal.

Young Boys, who reached the semi-finals of the 1958/59 European Cup, are reigning Swiss champions but are the weakest side in this group.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of the contest...

Cristiano Ronaldo stands to make his second European debut for United, who have travelled without Edinson Cavani to Switzerland. Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay and Alex Telles also remain out as they recover from shoulder, groin and ankle injuries respectively.

Solskjaer has included 19-year-old Anthony Elanga in the squad, who scored in the Premier League at the end of last season but is yet to feature since this campaign.

Young Boys vs Man Utd head to head

The only previous meetings between these clubs came in the 2018/19 Champions League group stage, with a United side led by Jose Mourinho emerging victorious on both occasions.

Paul Pogba scored twice in a 3-0 win in Switzerland almost exactly three years ago, while the only goal of the reverse fixture at Old Trafford was scored late by Marouane Fellaini.

Young Boys vs Man Utd prediction

Young Boys have done well to reach the Champions League group stage for only the second time, having had to navigate three tricky qualifying rounds just to get this far. But there is no point pretending that this game is anything other than a significant mismatch.

United may have struggled against Southampton and Wolves in recent weeks, but the lift the squad has received from the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo was there to see on Saturday as they put Newcastle to the sword at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo won’t settle for second best as he attempts to drive the club back to the pinnacle of English and European football. Don’t count against him getting on the score-sheet again.

Prediction: Young Boys 0-3 Manchester United
