YOUR CLUB, YOUR CHOICE OF NAME - MAKE HISTORY NOW

Last updated : 10 June 2005 By editor
Voting has begun on the future name of the club that has, until now, existed under the working title FC United. We realise that some supporters were disappointed by what was seen as a lack of choice in the names that we put forward. To this end we put polls on the major messageboards to see if any other name should be added by weight of popular support.

On the polls the majority vote, in all cases, was to stay with the original three names that have been put forward. There was also a strong vote in favour of “Newton Heath United” and, in view of this, it has been added to the choices as a fourth option. There is an option to vote for none of the above should you be unhappy with all three options.

This is your opportunity to take part in a historic process – a fully democratic naming of our new club. To be eligible you need to have pledged a financial contribution to the club; if you have done then you will receive an e-mail instructing you how to vote. If you haven’t then you can pledge any time before 3pm on Monday 13th and still be able to vote. The poll closes at 5pm on Monday 13th and the name will be announced shortly afterwards. To pledge, go to www.fc-utd.co.uk and click on the “pledge” link.

You can also pledge by post. Send a cheque payable to ‘FC United’ to:

FC United
Suite 80
792 Wilmslow Rd
Manchester
M20 6UG

If you are pledging by post, please remember to include your vote for the name of the team as we won’t have time to collect your vote otherwise. Post your pledge by first class post on Saturday at the latest to ensure it arrives in time.

What are the names?

The options are:

FC United of Manchester
FC Manchester Central
AFC Manchester 1878
Newton Heath United FC
