‘The Vatican Bank, which controls the coffers of the Catholic church, are considering investing in cash-strapped Lazio.

The Serie A side still owe United more than £10million of the £16m fee they agreed for the centre-back a year ago.

Reports in Italy insist the Papal bank, with assets of £35billion, are looking to buy into a new rights issue at Lazio.

The club hope to raise £30.6m from a bond flotation to offset transfer debts to other clubs.’
