YOU'RE NOT VERY GOOD

Liverpool 'legend' Tommy Smith has attacked his former clubs current team. More from the MEN before today's final.

The Anfield hardman says that the current team is "nowhere near good enough" and reckons that only six players have proved they are worth keeping.

Last week's 2-1 defeat at Birmingham sparked the outburst from Smith - who won four league titles, two FA Cups, two UEFA Cups and a European Cup with the club he served for 16 years.

In his weekly newspaper column, Smith says: "Liverpool have this habit of failing against clubs they should beat without approaching top gear.

"I have suffered along with most fans this season as the Reds have stumbled from one disappointment to another and it has led me, quite simply and honestly, to just one stark conclusion: This team is nowhere near good enough.

"Some of the players who have performed (or generally not) in a red shirt this season should not be on the pitch.

No passion

"There is no consistency in their play; there is no plan or formation that gives the team a formidable look; there is no width; there is no passion and, quite frankly, there is no chance of Champions League football next season on their display against Birmingham.
